In 2009, F. S. Merriwether realized he had no idea what contemporary music sounded like. He embarked on a project to record versions of hit songs without actually bothering to listen to them first. He'd track down a copy of the lyrics, then write and record a song using those.

Shockingly, none of these ended up sounding much at all like the originals. Eventually, he recorded enough of these to compile them into an album.
